A classy, "Mad Men" / old Vegas style lounge meets 2021 Tacoma! Intimate, cozy and a "this is my local" feel from the time you are greeted at the door by the maîtred' maison, who also seats you (and keeps guests well spaced due to Covid regs) while giving you his best one-liners en route.
The decor is warm, lights down low, romantic, 60's vibe accented with eclectic background music. The evening we were there, Louis Prima was followed by Tacoma's own "Sonics" (alleged foundation of American Punk). All very casual and fun. I could easliy see Don Draper meeting Joan here for a quiet afternoon meeting (cough cough). No smoking tho.....
The menu has a few larger meals (for sharing) but the heart of the menu are small plates/tapas that match with well a large cocktails list. That list includes house creations and twists on classics. A good bar wine list too; no plonk in it. We had the charcuterie board and there was a nice variety of meats, veggies and cheeses. It matched the drinks perfectly!
In addition to the maîtred' (who is getting a reputation for his dapper wardrobe), the bar and wait staff are super friendly and keep things moving with out being slow nor pushy.
Boom Boom has only been open a short while and appears already to have a following. Not an easy feat in the hospitality biz.
