Being a military spouse can be challenging, especially when it comes to making friends. With frequent moves and deployments, it can be hard to establish a support system and connect with others who understand your unique lifestyle. However, there are several ways that military spouses can make friends with other military spouses. Here are ten ways to get started:

  1. Attend social events: Most military installations have social events, such as spouse clubs, unit gatherings, or family days. Attend these events and meet other spouses.

  2. Join a support group: Many military installations have support groups for spouses dealing with specific challenges, such as deployment or caregiving. Join one of these groups to connect with others who are going through similar experiences.

  3. Volunteer: Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and meet other military spouses who share your values. Consider volunteering at a local hospital, school, or military organization.

  4. Join a fitness group: Many military installations have fitness centers and classes. Join a fitness group or class to meet other military spouses who are interested in staying active.

  5. Attend spouse orientation: If you're new to the military lifestyle, attend spouse orientation to learn more about the resources available to you and connect with other new spouses.

  6. Get involved in your community: Attend local events and get involved in your community. Join a church group, book club, or other organization to meet new people.

  7. Connect on social media: Many military spouses use social media to connect with others who are going through similar experiences. Join military spouse groups on Facebook or other social media platforms.

TRY THIS ON FACEBOOK GROUPS WITH OTHER MILITARY SPOUSES:

"Hey, my name is Sara. I am 23 years old.  I have two (no) kids ages 5 and 3.  I like to explore, have great lunches or just sit, talk and sip coffee.  Some of my other hobbies are...  I am looking for some friends who may be interested in having a coffee and getting to know each other.  Send me a message if interested."  Add a few photos of yourself.

  8. Attend family readiness group meetings: Family readiness group meetings are a great way to stay informed about your spouse's unit and connect with other spouses.

  10. Reach out to other spouses: Finally, don't be afraid to reach out to other military spouses. Strike up a conversation at the commissary or on the playground, and ask if they'd like to grab coffee or go for a walk. Sometimes all it takes is a friendly smile and an invitation to connect with others.

NO GO RULES:
1. Don't try and make friends because you are a real estate person and just want other spouses to buy/sell a home from you. People see through this fast and it discourages others.
2. If your goal of making friends is to get them to buy into your "business," this is a major turn-off.  Spouses will warn others about you.
3. If your goal is to build a following to your Youtube channel or Facebook group, you may find you are booted from many other's Facebook groups... FAST.

Above all, recruiting in Facebook groups is highly discouraged if you are using it as a guise to grow your business.  Spouses want real, genuine friends.

In conclusion, making friends as a military spouse can be challenging, but there are many ways to connect with others who understand your unique lifestyle. Attend social events, join a support group, volunteer, get involved in your community, connect on social media, attend family readiness group meetings, join a spouses' club, and reach out to other spouses. With a little effort, you can build a support system and make lifelong friendships with other military spouses.
