Introduction to Apple Pie with Washington State Apples

Washington State is renowned for its abundant apple orchards, producing some of the best apples in the world. The crisp, juicy varieties grown here, such as Honeycrisp and Granny Smith, are ideal for making a delicious apple pie. These apples bring the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, making them a popular choice for bakers everywhere.

Washington State Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups of Washington State apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade if preferred)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  3. Assemble the pie: Roll out the pie crust and place it in a pie dish. Pour the apple mixture into the crust, then dot with butter. Cover with the second pie crust and crimp the edges. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  4. Bake: Place the pie in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  5. Cool and serve: Let the pie cool for at least an hour before serving.

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a classic dessert, a Washington State apple pie never disappoints. The perfect blend of tartness from local apples and a flaky, buttery crust makes this recipe a family favorite.
